Summer is finally in full swing (although the weather here in Portland might not know that) and June has come and left. June was quite an interesting month for me, with lots of ups and downs. With that said, here is a list of some of the things I enjoyed in June.

BEAUTY PRODUCTS

Urban Decay Naked Illuminated in Luminous

Especially in the summer, I really want to glow. I have never heard anyone talk about this highlighter, but I really like it because it not only is glowy, but it also includes some glitter. It’s like straight-up glitter and highlighter were combined. Anytime I wear makeup, this has been the one I’m reaching for.

BareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Smooth Talker

You know when you’re moving and suddenly you find a purse or bag you haven’t opened in months and find your favorite lipgloss that you thought you’d lost forever? That’s exactly what happened with this gloss. Since I found it, I’ve been wearing it all the time. My favorite part about it is that it’s not too pigmented but gives off a really nice shine and makes your lips look plump. It also has a bit of plumping in it I believe, because it does tingle a bit when you wear it, but I’m pretty sensitive to plumping glosses and this one I love.

e.l.f. Soothing Aloe Mist

I was browsing the aisles of Target looking for something else to buy so I could use a coupon. I had been using a rosewater toner mist from Trader Joe’s, but I ran out so I figured I should look for something similar. I found this e.l.f. Mist and I’ve really been loving it. I don’t know how much of a difference it makes in my skin, but it does feel more hydrated right after I use it.

Old Spice Deep Sea antiperspirant and deodorant

My mom always buys herself, and my sister and me the Target Beauty Box when it comes out every month. This last month, they had a special Father’s Day box that we got for my dad. He is super picky when it comes to deodorant, and I was running low on mine, so I told him I would take it. I’ve really been wanting to try a more natural deodorant, but I’m a very sweaty human, and summer is not the time for me to start trying out natural deodorant. So I started using this one and I really enjoy it. It smells really nice, but not too strong. I also think that it keeps me from sweating more than my other deodorants have, which I definitely need.

FASHION

This month, when I came home from school, I started working at American Eagle. I have been wearing American Eagle clothes since last summer and it has basically become what my entire wardrobe is made of. I have always struggled with my weight and therefore finding clothes in my size that make me feel good about my body. American Eagle does that for me. They don’t have a “plus-size” section, they simply have clothes in all sizes. Recently, they launched their new curvy line and it has been one of my favorites this month. I bought a pair of the Curvy Mom Jean and they seriously look like I bought them at a vintage store. I also bought a pair of Curvy shorts that I’m really enjoying. If you have problems finding jeans and shorts that don’t gap or just simply aren’t comfortable, I would recommend trying out their Curvy line.

MUSIC

At the end of May, I went to a concert at my school with my roommate and best friend Alex. We were super excited about it and ended up essentially standing in the front row. The artists? Jesse McCartney and Akon. It was so much fun to see two people live who I listened to so much as a kid. It was so nostalgic. We had such a great time and the memories we made there will not soon be forgotten. The morning after the concert, I made a playlist on my Spotify with just Jesse McCartney and Akon songs on it. I love belting out their songs while I’m in the car and it reminds me of the concert.

In all, this month was definitely not my favorite. However, every day I wake up and try to remind myself of the things in my life that I am enjoying, like these favorites. Even when things are hard, there are small things you can find that remind you of why it’s important to stick around. On my worst days, I’ll be in bed cuddling my dog Cleo and it will remind me that this is important too. Everything else might feel like too much, but at least I have this time with her.

This next month, I encourage you to do whatever you can, whenever you can, to make yourself find joy. This doesn’t mean being completely happy, although if that’s something you can accomplish, that’s so incredible. What it does mean is that when you’re feeling like life might be a little too much, you’re tired or overwhelmed at work, find the small things in your day that make you smile- sipping your iced coffee, putting on your pajamas when you get home, taking a hot shower. This has helped me remember why I’m here and it is one of the huge reasons I’ve decided to start posting here on this blog and on YouTube again.

See you soon!

XOXO,

Kate
